I had to leave these guys (Cloudsites) when Liquidweb took over. Everything got more complicated and less efficient. I run a few websites and I just didn't have the patience.

CyberGhost VPN Review

CyberGhost VPN boasts 15 years in the industry, with an impressive array of features for safe, secure, and anonymous browsing online. Military-grade encryption ensures that your security is protected at all times, and a strict ‘no-logs’ policy is your assurance that no personally identifiable data can be shared. CyberGhost VPN features 3600+ servers across 60 countries with multi-device compatibility, and up to 7 devices connected simultaneously.

Is My Privacy Protected with CyberGhost VPN?

CyberGhost VPN claims to offer complete privacy, security, and anonymity to all users of its services. The privacy policy provides in-depth insights into what data is stored, how it is managed, and whether it is shared with third parties. CyberGhost VPN claims that the company (ostensibly CyberGhost VPN) does not store, log, record, or monitor any content and/or search preferences of its users. This includes, but is not limited to your browsing history, and your traffic destination. Further, no connection logs are stored including your IP address. Other important information such as the length of time you are connected through this VPN service and the timestamp of your activity is also not recorded.

Upon further reading, we discovered that certain personal information is collected by CyberGhost VPN. Most of this data is collected during the registration process, or when you are communicating with customer support about technical, registration, banking, or related issues. Personal data includes your username, name, address, and payment information. As per the fraud detection and prevention measures, CyberGhost VPN also collects your website usage data including your IP address (stored anonymously), and your country. This may sound alarmed bells to users, but CyberGhost VPN claims that this personal data does not apply to any activity that takes place through the CyberGhost VPN tunnel.

Various nonpersonal data are also collected. This includes the type of browser you are using, the type of device you are using, and certain metadata, among others. CyberGhost VPN states that the collection of nonpersonal data cannot be linked to any user's personal data. Sharing of personal data is possible but to a limited degree. CyberGhost VPN may disclose details of your personal data to any member of its group of companies, trusted vendors such as credit card. providers, in the prevention of a violation of terms and conditions, or in the commission of a crime. Unfortunately, CyberGhost VPN unequivocally states the following: ‘We also reserve the right to disclose your personal data as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our website.’ The extent to which they can share personal data is limited to the type of personal data they collect about users.

Provided you are not raising alarm bells with your online browsing activity, CyberGhost VPN is unlikely to scrutinize your web browsing sessions. To this end, you will be able to enjoy anonymity, security, and privacy online. For the security aficionados out there, you'll be pleased to know that there is an automatic kill switch included with this VPN software.

CyberGhost VPN Speed Test

CyberGhost VPN servers provide varying speeds, depending on a host of factors. It should be known from the get go that most VPN services will reduce your download speed and your upload speed since you are rerouting traffic from your ISP through a VPN server to your target website. However, on the odd occasion, it is possible that a VPN service may increase your download/upload speeds by dint of the fact that no throttling takes place on VPN servers.

We thoroughly researched the claims provided by CyberGhost VPN that its average speed is 6 Mbps and the maximum possible speed given the best conditions is 1 GB. Overall though, the actual speed of your connection through a CyberGhost VPN server depends on many factors. These include the following:

  • The number of users that are currently logged on to the server. As the number of users increases, bandwidth decreases, causing congestion and delays.
  • Local servers offer improved upload and download speeds than remote servers. The closer you are to a server, the quicker your speeds.
  • Your original internet speed is an important indicator of what to expect when you redirect your traffic through CyberGhost VPN servers. If your original speed is slow, you can expect the same with CyberGhost VPN.
  • Hardware quality can also play a part in the types of speeds you can expect with VPN services.

Here are some important facts to bear in mind when evaluating whether to use CyberGhost Premium VPN. Users get to enjoy unlimited bandwidth and unlimited traffic. There is full DNS and IP leak protection, and you can connect up to 7 devices simultaneously. The clincher in terms of speed and lack of congestion is the fact that there are 3600 servers located across 60 countries. This all but ensures that you shouldn't face any lags during your browsing sessions.

If you need to get in touch with a representative, the online contact form is a useful option. You will be required to provide personal information including your email address, operating system, username, name/alias, and any attachments you may want to include. Customer support representatives typically respond within 24 – 48 hours. Another useful option is the online chat function powered by Zendesk. This is the quickest way to communicate with support representatives in real-time. We were impressed with the quality of customer support, including the wide range of topics that are addressed by the support team.

You can reach the team 24/7, and dedicated social media options are available on LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and Vimeo. Customer service has received stellar reviews on Trustpilot, indicating that user satisfaction is generally high with this VPN provider. Rather than providing a customer service email address, users are redirected through the FAQ section and the live chat function. There are dedicated email addresses for affiliates, resellers, public relations, and website & apps.

When it comes to company management and transparency, each ranking member of the team is featured with a thumbnail, title, and description. Dozens of team members are listed on site, and they check out on LinkedIn and CrunchBase as authentic. The company has not updated the fact that it has been purchased from its original Romanian owners. It is now owned by Kape Technologies and the CEO is Ido Erlichman.

With CyberGhost VPN, customers are assured of the widest possible coverage of VPN servers across 60+ countries. You can seamlessly log in to some 3600+ servers, and enjoy unlimited bandwidth, unlimited connection times, and unlimited switching between servers. Users can log in to content that would otherwise be geolocation-blocked, by using the anonymous browsing capabilities of this VPN service.

This means you can watch YouTube videos, access P2P streaming services, unblock Facebook, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Netflix, and other popular video, music and torrenting services. CyberGhost VPN claims that it blocks adware, malware, viruses, Trojans, online tracking systems, and other suspicious activity. We could not independently validate all of these claims given that we already use the highest security systems on our equipment such as ad blockers, powerful antivirus software, Tor, and VPN services.

How Safe is CyberGhost VPN?

The privacy policy is your first port of call when evaluating the safety of CyberGhost VPN. Important information is provided here about the logs policy, personal data, nonpersonal data, and how this company may share your information if subpoenaed by the authorities. In terms of actual security, CyberGhost VPN details its server security policy in the FAQ section. According to CyberGhost VPN, ‘CyberGhost is certified by QSCERT with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certificates. ISO 9001 relates to working procedures while ISO 27001 regularizes technical procedures and security standards.’ Plus, all servers are protected by RSA keys which are encrypted on a mobile drive in a TrueCrypt Volume.

This VPN service is protected by 256-AES bit military grade encryption technology to prevent hacking or theft of personal data. It also has SHA 256 for authentication purposes. Independent tests confirm that there were no DNS leaks and no IP address leaks. We did not find any evidence of WebRTC leaks either. Recall that the software features a kill switch which automatically disconnects from the Internet to prevent your true IP address from being revealed. CyberGhost VPN is also compatible with The onion router (Tor) and many other proxies. This ensures that you can enjoy maximum anonymity and privacy online.
