NuVPN Review

NuVPN is located in the British Virgin Islands and has earned a reputation for its great services and efficient service. This VPN helps with unblocking restricted content as well as helping users maintain online anonymity as is the function of every VPN. However, let’s see what other features it brings to the table for it to brush shoulders with other reputable VPNs.

Is My Privacy Protected with NuVPN?

NuVPN has a very strict no-logging policy which enhances your anonymity online and gives you the privacy you look for in a Virtual Private Network . Its website states most emphatically that NuVPN makes it its business to stay out of its users’ business which in turn makes users even more confident in the amount of privacy and anonymity offered by NuVPN. NuVPN is also located in the British Virgin Islands where there are no data retention laws, which is how they are able to ensure that your digital footprints remain untraceable and enhances its quality as a private network.

"Privacy Policy
How do you know my IP address and location?
When you browse a website, the website needs to know an IP address to send data back to, otherwise your device would never be able to communicate with any services or websites correctly. This target IP address is usually owned by your ISP, and can be used to identify you as an individual.
By using a VPN service, when your device communicates with a target website or service, the origin information provided belongs to the VPN provider. If you signed up and connected to our VPN service today and looked back at the home page, you'd see a different IP address and location. This is the IP address and location of the VPN server you would have selected after creating an account with us. The target website or service no longer knows your IP address or approximate location.
Aside from websites and other services not knowing your IP address and (approximate) location, your ISP would not know what services and websites you were accessing. This is because your device would only appear to communicate with our VPN server. The traffic between your device and the VPN server would be encrypted, so your ISP wouldn't be able to view or modify traffic between your device and our VPN servers.
As well as your ISP not being able to view your traffic, other users on the same network as you will also be left in the dark. This is because the encrypted communication starts at your device.
Although you can see your IP address and location information on our website, we don't log these details. We have disabled the logging of source IP addresses from our users to protect your privacy.

What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) creates a secure tunnel between two or more devices. This secure tunnel can prevent malicious entities from inspecting traffic between these devices. One of the effects of using a VPN service is that it can make you appear is if you're accessing the Internet from a different location than where you actually are.
There are a number of reasons why you may want to use a VPN, including:
• To access geofenced services such as BBC iPlayer or Netflix
• To access websites which have been blocked in your country
• You're connecting to the Internet over an untrusted network (such as a public WiFi hotspot), and wish to prevent potentially malicious entities from inspecting your traffic
• To prevent your ISP (Internet Service Provider) from inspecting your traffic. ISPs can inspect, profile, sell and potentially modify your traffic if you're not using a VPN

How can I trust your service?
As with any VPN provider, you as an individual must trust that what a VPN provider says is true. If users didn't trust their VPN provider then the VPN provider would probably go out of business very quickly. We at nuvpn make it our business to stay out of your business. We don't keep any VPN or DNS logs.
If you're particularly keen on trying to keep the contents and target of your communications private, we would recommend looking into a project called Tor (for security reasons, we don't provide a link to this project - you'll be able to search for it on popular search engines). The bulk of funding for Tor's development has come from the federal government of the United States, initially through the Office of Naval Research and DARPA.
Tor is free and (arguably) more secure than using a VPN service offered by a provider, but it is usually slower, and many website owners block access to their websites from devices which are known to be originating from the Tor network.

What do you log?
When you browse nuvpn, nginx stores logs on users, which includes user agent string and requested resource. IP address information is not logged. With regards to using the VPN service, nuvpn does not store VPN or DNS logs.

How Much is NuVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

NuVPN has competitive pricing plans, you also have the option to try out NuVPN and take advantage of their free 3-hour trial when you purchase a plan. They also offer a full refund if you’re not satisfied with the service, although the details of this appear rather vague. Even though the distinction between each pricing plan is pretty limited, they are all in the lower echelons of what you can expect to pay for a reliable VPN.

The great thing about this is that you can easily commit to a month without feeling seriously ripped off. Each plan comes with a money-back guarantee, varying from seven days for the one-month plan, up to 30 days for the 6-month and 1-year plan. The setup is straightforward as well – just sign up, download your OpenVPN profile, and then use it on up to three devices at any one time.

NuVPN Speed Test

The speeds I noticed during my tests were quite impressive to be honest. Granted that using a VPN will automatically lower your speed, NuVPN’s speeds were very competitive. I registered speeds of up to 40mbps and I was shocked to say least since with most VPNs I register an average maximum of 30mbps. This is music in the ears of those who like to stream but on the downside, it does not unblock Netflix. So if you were hoping to Netflix and chill on the regular, you might want to find a different alternative.

How is Customer Service at NuVPN?

NuVPN customer support is very efficient and reliable. There is a live chat where you can have all your issues addressed step by step. You can also shoot them an email but you will have to wait a couple of hours as per my experience, to get them to write back. I do think they can do much better on the customer support although the FAQ page covers so many questions that you almost won’t need to contact customer support.

Is NuVPN Safe?

Although there isn’t much information provided on the safety guaranteed by NuVPN, I can confirm that its servers support TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (0xc030), which is preferred by the OpenSSL library used by OpenVPN.
