Collection and usage of user information

They collect both personal identification as well as non-personal identification information from their customers. I found this to be a major concern.

Storage of crucial details:

In the process of joining and navigating the site. I was asked to give them my name, email address, mailing address and phone number. This is a serious offence as far as customers anonymity is concerned in my opinion

The Price levels

I did find out that the price levels were relatively high. More especially for customers from the 3rd world countries like me. I think the prices should be lowered a bit, otherwise it is a good site.

Limited number of servers

VersaVPN has 60 VPN servers scattered across 20 countries across the globe. It is this limited servers that caused most of the speed fluctuations during my login period. They must improve on this feature.

VersaVPN: Is it really an ultra secure VPN service?

People are becoming more and more aware of the various threats they can encounter online and are looking for ways to overcome the same. Because of this, the need for a VPN service has been constantly rising over the years.

Based in the Philippines, VersaVPN has been around for about eight years now and is still growing in all aspects to become one of the leading VPN providers on the market. But, it claims to be an ultra secure VPN service; how true can this be?

Is My Privacy Protected with VersaVPN?

The privacy policy of VersaVPN is quite comprehensive. The VPN service doesn’t mention anywhere on their website that they have a no logging policy. On their Privacy Policy page, they discuss the collection and usage of user information. They seem to collect both personal identification as well as non-personal identification information from their customers.
When it comes to personal information, the ways they collect the same include, “but not limited to, when Users visit our site, subscribe to the newsletter, fill out a form, and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our Site”. In addition, you may also be asked for your “name, email address, mailing address, phone number”. Although they mention that users can refuse to provide such information, it can prevent you from accessing certain areas of the website.
In the case of non-personal information, the service may collect “browser name, the type of computer and technical information about Users means of connection to our Site, such as the operating system and the Internet service providers utilized and other similar information”.
VersaVPN states that they use customers’ personal identification information to: “improve customer service, improve our site, run a promotion, contest, survey or other Site feature, and send periodic emails”.
And, when it comes to sharing user information, although the company states that they “do not sell, trade, or rent Users personal identification information to others”, they accept that they may however share some generic information with their business partners, affiliates, and others.
Well, let’s just say that we are not completely satisfied with the privacy, data retention, and data sharing policy of the VPN service.

How Much is VersaVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

VersaVPN offers three different pricing plans: a monthly plan, a quarterly plan, and a yearly plan. The monthly plan will cost you $5.50 per month, the quarterly plan will be $15 every 3 months, and the yearly plan is priced at $25 a year. The pricing, in general, seems to be affordable; but, of all the plans, choosing the yearly plan will benefit you the most, since it is one of the least expensive amounts we have seen so far for an annual VPN subscription. Regardless of the plan you choose, the features you get to enjoy will be the same.
VersaVPN doesn’t seem to offer a free trial; however, the company does offer a 10-day hassle free money-back guarantee, which means you can request a refund if you are not satisfied with their features or services.
In addition to these plans, you can also choose Dedicated VPN Plans, which include: Americas Dedicated IP, Europe Dedicated IP, and Asia Dedicated IP, all priced at $15 per month.

VersaVPN Speed Test

Overall, VersaVPN has 60 VPN servers scattered across 20+ countries across the globe. Though this number is not huge, we were able to experience high speeds from the VPN’s servers, and the servers in almost all regions performed equally well. We had no major issue with our connection speeds or DNS lookup time. This consistency in speed makes this VPN service a great option for streaming, torrenting, and P2P capabilities.

How is Customer Service at VersaVPN?

Customer service is another area where VersaVPN manages to score highly. The VPN service extends customer support via live chat, email, and support tickets. They promise round the clock customer support via all these options. During the time of our review, the live chat feature was offline and we were requested to submit a form with our query, which we did. We were certainly surprised to receive a response from the team within an hour of our submission, and the response was clear, professional and highly informative.
In addition, there is also a vast Knowledge Base that you can access to learn about the features offered by the service, or even look for setup instructions. One small downfall is that there is no phone number provided on the website for easy contact.

Features

Starting with the website of the VPN service, VersaVPN did manage to impress us with its simple yet professional layout. We liked the overall design of the website and how the menus were laid out across it to make navigation easy. Finding information wasn’t really an issue, thanks to their efficient website design.

Signing up for the VPN’s services is also an easy process. Choose a Premium or Dedicated plan of your choice, register by entering your email address and preferred password, choose a payment method, and you are done.
The VPN service can be used on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Linux, and Router devices. It supports PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN protocols, and has 60 servers located across 20+ countries around the world.

What we like about this VPN service is that it offers Dedicated VPN packages in addition to its standard VPN plans. The dedicated packages are available for those in need of Asia, Europe, or American IP addresses, and come with a great set of features as well.
In addition to offering some of the basic VPN features like anonymity, security, circumventing geographic restrictions, torrenting and streaming abilities, etc., VersaVPN also deliver DDOS protection, port forwarding, and SecureProxy access. With the SecureProxy feature for Firefox and Chrome, you gain the ability to access Netflix while staying secure at all times.

Is VersaVPN Safe?

As was mentioned before, VersaVPN supports PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN protocols, with 256-bit encryption, which is known to be the highest level of encryption in the VPN industry. Furthermore, the VPN service also provides DDOS protection, and the whole network is also SSL secured with the same encryption level to make your online presence safe and secure.
While testing, we did not encounter DNS or WebRTC leaks; however, the VPN service provides ways to prevent or resolve the issues, which will be useful for many users.

Bottom Line

To sum up, VersaVPN is a great VPN service that will be beneficial for both new and experienced VPN users alike. The features offered by the service are advanced, especially considering its affordable pricing. The fact that they offer a Dedicated VPN plan is another big plus. However, it is in their privacy policy where the company lets us down a bit.
